Drainage in Front of Pasar Ciplak Strewn with Trashes

The condition of drainage in front of Pasar Ciplak, Cipinang Besar Selatan (CBS) Urban Village, Jatinegara Sub-District, East Jakata, is very worrying. Besides strewn with trashes, the drainage is also full of clumps of meat fat that triggers rotten smell. Inevitably, it makes the locals as well as the market’s visitors feel uncomfortable.

At night, there are many street vendors selling on sidewalk. Perhaps they were the one who threw those wastes and trashes

“The smell is very sting, especially if the wind blows strongly. Moreover, many of the drainage’s plugs are also damaged,” complained Wargo (40), a resident of RW 02 CBS, Saturday (4/26).

According to Head of Pasar Ciplak, Nurdin, the trashes in the drainage are strongly believed dumped by the street vendors who sell their merchandises on the sidewalk at night. His party cannot evict those street vendors because it is not their responsibility.

Similar to other residents, Nurdin also complained about the damaged drainage plugs. Those plugs were actually had been repaired. But since there are many vehicles passing through above the concrete of the drain plugs, it damaged again.

Meanwhile, Head of Facility and Infrastructure Section for East Jakarta Water Management Public Works Sub-Department, Supriyanto, admitted that he has yet to know about this matter. If the locals really complained about such condition, his sub-department will immediately take action.

“If there were illegal buildings or street vendors selling above the drainage, we will control them. But, I have to check the location first to know what is really happening in the field,” he stated.
